AFCOPB to host youth forum for International Day of Peace

The African Centre for Peace Building (AFCOPB) –www.afcopb.org– in collaboration with Universal Peace Federation (Nigeria), URI Africa and Global Educators for All Initiative (Nigeria) will from September 18-20, 2014 commemorate the 2014 International Day of Peace with a Youth Peace Forum at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD), University of Ghana, Accra-Ghana

The forum which is under the theme “Building a future of peace: the role of young people” will draw participants from Youth/Student groups, NGO/CBOs, Security services, government departments and the media.

“The forum seeks to provide a platform for the youth to share ideas and information on issues affecting their lives which if not addressed could make them to be potential agents of violence conflict” says Korsi Senyo, Executive Director, AFCOPB told AwakeAfrica.org in an interview

“The Ebola outbreak in the West Africa sub-region is serious threat to human security. During the panel discussion at the forum, we will also discuss how the youth can contribute to curbing this deadly virus” he added

The three day programme will focus on Youth Unemployment, Peace, Security and Human Development in West Africa as well as issues of Youth and Elections, Youth and Democracy among others.

The Youth Peace Forum 2014 also seeks to explore innovative approaches and policies to strengthen relationship between young people of Ghana and Nigeria for the peace, security and development of West Africa.

The programme will also designate some youth leaders as Young Peace Loving Global Citizens and Youth Millennium Development Ambassadors. The awards seek to celebrate and empower awardees in their efforts to promote global peace.

“We are therefore calling on corporate bodies, development agencies and the media to support us towards the success of the forum” Korsi Senyo appeals.
