Farm for Peace Project - AFCOPB | African Centre for Peace Building

Home / Farm for Peace Project

Farm for Peace Project

The aim of our organization is to build peace in the country and Africa. This we want to do through youth development, peace education, promotion human right and health. We also seek to create positive opportunities for the inhabitants in conflict areas to help

them improve their livelihoods hence providing sustainable solution to the conflict situations in the areas where these areas would no longer be known for ‘conflicts’ but as the food baskets for Africa.

The Centre has therefore designed this ‘Farm for Peace Project ’ to be implemented in conflict affected areas in Ghana and other parts of Africa. We will be working closely with the local communities, District Assemblies, farmers, governments and other organizations to make this project a success.

The project which targets peasant farmers in the districts aims at providing supports (technical-application of chemical etc, farming input and market) to the peasant farmers in the districts on credit bases. The farmer then pays back for the imputs supplied to them with his products.

This is to help increase positive engagement opportunities to the rural inhabitants and the youth so the youth in particular would not be ideal to be come a workforce seeking to fronts violence in the areas.

Project Objectives:

  1. To provide sustainable end to the conflicts situation
  2. To provide market (buying of their products and other marketing links) for farmers
  3. To provide farming inputs to farmers to maximize their productivity and increase their farm sizes
  4. To increase food supply in the country hence contributing to economic development
  5. To create another alternative engagement (jobs) of the youth other than living ideal and ready to involve in violent conflicts
  6. Provide more jobs in these areas to mitigate rural urban migration
  7. Providing Housing Scheme for the farms (see Peace Village Project)

Operational Crops:

  • Cereals (Maize, Millet, Rice, Beans)

We are looking for partners, donors and individual investors, private sector businesses, governments in the implementation of the full project (March 1, 2011). you can write to info@afcopb.org if you wish to support this project.
