Hon. Minister, Ministry of Health, Accra

Dear Sir,

PETITION: INVESTIGATION ALLEGATIONS LEVELED AGAINST THE MANAGEMENT OF THE VOLTA REGIONAL HOSPITAL

We extend to your outfit peace and warms regards from The African Centre for Peace Building-AFCOPB the house of peace and justice.

A complain on our desk has claims, alleging the management of the Volta Regional Hospital exploited some people recruited to undergo training and finally employed at the hospital as laborers.

A sub unite of the Centre, League for Change Ghana has petitioned the said hospital administration on   September 28, 2009 on the matter demanding the management to substantiate the allegation but since then we have not received any  response from the hospital.

The Centre has interest in addressing the issue for the vulnerable hence wishes to bring it to your notice for a thorough investigation.

Grounds for Petition:

  1. Laborers have received a ‘back pay’ covering the past years (2005-2009) they worked with the hospital without being on a pay roll. That after they have been paid in May 2009 through their various bank          accounts, the management of the hospital demanded they surrender their received salaries to the            management on the basis that when their salaries were not coming from the Controller and Accountant-General, the hospital had committed some amount in paying them.
  2. Laborers have been paying some amount every month to the management of the hospital before they were put on the payment voucher (PV).
  3. Many have surrendered their monies whereas those who refused to surrender their salaries (the back pay) have been dismissed or lost their jobs at the hospital.
  4. Some could not give all their ‘back pay’ to the hospital but pleaded to pay it in installment-they are still working at the hospital

We therefore pray your outfit to institute an investigation into these allegations for peace and justice to prevail.

We are ever ready to assist in the investigation if the need arise.

In solidarity of the workman, I remain.

Signed:
